what is this about?
this blog is about refusing to settle for a junkfood lunchbox. it is about taking the time to create something healthy and interesting. it is a daily challenge, but our priority is to have a healthy and energetic toddler son and we try our best to stay away from the following: it does not mean we always succeed…:
- sugar
- pre-packaged foods or canned goods
- foods containing colourings, E-numbers or additives
who are we?

jon is a bubbly 3 year old who started vuggestue (daycare) in november 2007 and has now moved on to børnehave (kindergarten).
papajon and mamajon are both full time working parents who put the lunchbox together – at night when jon is peacefully asleep…

Check out my site today… I posted about your amazing meals for your son
These meals are truly inspiring – can I hire you to prepare a lunch box (perhaps a slightly bigger size?!) for me on a daily basis?!
Jon is a very lucky little boy!
Keep it up mama and papajon..!
Best wishes,
Auntie M =)
You have giving my many ideas and will in deed mention this site to friends of mine. The one thing that struck me is that the food has plenty of color which applies to children alot.
Well done.
Hi! I think your blog is great! I am trying to figure out though… you sound American, you spell with proper English, and you use Danish words (and Danish flags). Are you actually Danish?? I found your site because I want to order a lunchbox with lots of compartments in them, like I used to have when I was a child living in Denmark. I can’t find such lunchboxes here in the US. Where do you get your (empty) lunchboxes? Now that I found your site, I will keep updated on the blog, because I love all the different food ideas you have.
Thanks!

alicia, thanks for referring to us
auntie m, the lasagna you made last week was to-die-for! maybe i should ask you to make lunchboxes for us…
matthew, you are absolutely right, i think children are excited about a colourful meal
thanks for stopping by.
heather, you are right on all accounts! i graduated from an american highschool then from a british university. currently living in denmark and married to a dane but have a portuguese passport.
i ordered our lunchbox online here: http://www.laptoplunches.com/products.html
have fun packing your own lunchbox.
wow! that’s funny. the only way I could have figured all is that out is because I am American, but lived for a while as a child in Denmark. I went to graduate school in England. And my husband just happens to be Danish as well. So we have visited Denmark quite often. Thanks for the tip on the lunchboxes!
What amazing lunches your son eats! I wish I could get my 2 year old to even think about eating the yummy things your little guy eats. I’m new to bento style lunches (son’s bento kit arrived today) and am really hoping that making Mr Picky’s lunches more fun will help persuade him to eat a wider variety of healthy things. Does Jon eat his foods at room temp or does his school warm them up? Thanks for a great site. It’s really inspiring.
hi lisa! the food is refrigerated at kindergarten until lunch time. and then if the boxes can handle the microwave, so if one of the boxes requires heating up, they will do that.
we are lucky in that sense.
enjoy creating fun lunches for mr. picky!
Fantastic website. Top nosh in a box.
Goodness! Mamajon! He is having a 5 star dinner everyday! He must be on the 0.999% of children who is lucky enough to have such gorgeous food everyday!!!
mrmikeedie, thank you for stopping by
naturallynice, eυχαριστώ. i think you do an amazing job yourself
i think you are an inspiration to many through your own blog
You have an awful lot of food selections that can pose a choking hazard for a 3 yr old child.
hi Magnolia. it is good that you are honest about how you feel and are able to express it!
it is a good point and i am sure a lot of 3 year old are not used to eating a lot of what we offer jon. a lot of the parents i know tend to mash the food up, cut the food into little pieces etc… jon started to use a child friendly knife by age 2 and has been able to eat fruit with seeds since he was 2 (plumbs, cherries etc…) with no accidents. it is about teaching your child how to eat and supervising of course. jon eats olives with seeds, and carefully eats around the seed and stacks the seeds on his plate. we teach him to chew well.
on the other hand, a child can just as well joke just by eating and drinking at the same time. a child can joke on countless things… we have to teach them how to eat.
another factor is that jon always eats sitting down. unlike many other children i see running around the house or garden with food in their hands, as they jump or do cartwheels… there is a time to eat and there is a time to play. that reducing a lot of the choking risks as well.
